The Stamford Bridge home team will be all they can to get Onana’s signature this summer, including giving Inter two expensive players.
Chelsea have been keeping an eye on Onana for a long time. They already want to replace current goalkeepers Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga, and see the Cameroonian as an important target.
The former Ajax goalkeeper has both good reflexes and an impressive set of footwork. New Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino also claims to be a “fan” of Onana and wants the team to close this deal soon. The Inter side, however, did not let their goalkeeper go easily. They demanded £55 million, even though Onana’s contract had only one year left to expire.
Chelsea, however, still appeared confident. Firstly, because they know that Inter are ready to part with Onana when they are aggressively hunting for a replacement, Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario. The second is that they themselves have the players that Inter crave. One is centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly. Unsuccessful at Chelsea, but Koulibaly is still the desired man in Serie A, after what he showed with Napoli. Coach Simone Inzaghi believes the Senegal international will be a great addition to his defence.
The second is Romelu Lukaku. Chelsea are still loaning Lukaku to Inter, Lukaku wants to stay and Inter also wants to keep him. Knowing that selling Lukaku is difficult, but keeping him is not, Chelsea are ready to exchange Lukaku for Onana, despite having spent up to 100 million pounds to buy him two years ago.
