Lionel Messi has emerged as the winner of the prestigious Ballon d’Or in 2023. However, a video that has gone viral on social media shows his son Thiago in a state of confusion as he looks at the eight Ballon d’Or trophies lined up together. Despite facing stiff competition from Erling Haaland, who had an incredible 2023, Messi managed to bag his eighth Ballon d’Or trophy. Following his triumph, the camera caught a funny exchange between Messi and his son Thiago.
Messi’s 10-year-old son Thiago was shocked and confused when he saw his father’s eight Ballon d’Or trophies lined up on the table at home. In a conversation between the two facilitated by AS, Thiago asked his father why he had eight trophies instead of seven. Lionel Messi responded by saying that he now has eight, to which Thiago asked if he had won it that day as there were only seven balls in the house. Messi confirmed that he had won it that day, leaving Thiago baffled and asking why.
Thiago was further perplexed when he mistakenly believed his father had won nine Ballon d’Ors. It’s unclear why Thiago was so baffled, but it made for an entertaining conversation nonetheless. Thiago shares his father’s passion for football and has played for Barcelona, PSG’s youth ranks, and currently plays for Inter Miami. In 2020, Messi revealed that Thiago admires six footballers, including Cristiano Ronaldo.
