The chaotic scene appeared not long after the Catalan giants regained the throne from Real Madrid.
In the 34th round of La Liga, Barcelona marched to Espanyol’s field. Coach Xavi Hernandez’s team needed to win all 3 points to officially be crowned, and they completed their goal with a 4-2 victory.
After the final whistle sounded, Barca members celebrated enthusiastically for the 27th La Liga championship. They stood in a circle on the field, bouncing and high five. However, that image made the overwhelming group of Espanyol fans feel extremely angry. Despite the intervention of the security team, these people still flooded the field to threaten the opponent.
Feeling that the situation was not good, the Catalan giants quickly ran into the tunnel to escape. But even there they came face-to-face with some agitated fans. Luckily no one was injured.
Having to watch the arch-enemies celebrate the championship at home like a drop of water made Espanyol fans furious. Their favorite team has been playing badly for the past two months, with 9 defeats in the last 11 matches. After chasing the Barca player, many people turned and directed their anger to the Espanyol leadership.
Currently, the blue and white striped shirt collective is ranked 19th, 4 points below the safe position while the season has 4 more rounds. The relegation nightmare is coming very close to the RCDE team.
