Mbappe’s future is hot again when the summer transfer market 2023 begins. Unlike previous years, the possibility of the striker born in 1998 leaving PSG is now greater than ever, when his relationship with the French capital club deteriorated.
Mbappe’s determination
The fact that Mbappe informed PSG of his decision not to renew his current contract was to be expected. In May, Le Parisen or France Football revealed that the French spearhead did not want to stick with the Parc des Princes team for a long time. The fact that L’Equipe confirmed on June 12 about Mbappe’s decision not to renew his contract says a lot.
PSG also pressured Mbappe. If the player does not renew his contract, the reigning Ligue 1 champions will sell him this summer. Mbappe’s current contract with PSG is only valid until June 2024 and he can completely leave on a free transfer at the end of next season.
The Qatari owners do not want to fall into a passive situation like last year, when Mbappe waited for the bond between him and the club to end before making the next decision. However, PSG’s angry attitude seems to be exactly what Mbappe wants.
The 2018 World Cup winner is likely to no longer see PSG as a launch pad that can help him succeed. Previously, Mbappe was rumored to put pressure on the PSG leadership. After the failed 2022/23 season in the Champions League arena, the former Monaco star wants PSG to make a comprehensive change in force to continue conquering the European playground.
However, the current signals in the transfer market of PSG do not bring much optimism. Coach Christophe Galtier has not yet been officially fired, although there are many reports that PSG have made a final decision on the future of the French strategist. The name for Mr. Galtier has not yet been decided by PSG.
After Lionel Messi left, PSG returned to an unstable team in many positions. They haven’t come close to adding a quality rookie yet. That could make Mbappe impatient.
As for PSG, the leadership of the French team is also not satisfied when always being “hostage” of Mbappe in contract negotiations. Selling Mbappe right this summer becomes the most reasonable solution for the reigning Ligue 1 champion, both economically and professionally.
Door from Real Madrid
Another important reason why Mbappe is determined to leave this summer is that Benzema has left Real Madrid. In two rejections of offers from “Los Blancos” in the summer of 2017 and 2022, Mbappe was worried about having to compete with other strikers at Real Madrid.

At the 2017 summer market, before Mbappe came to PSG on a loan contract (with an option to buy permanently) from Monaco, Real Madrid also offered a price not inferior to the French capital team. However, the AS Monaco management later confirmed that Mbappe would rather go to PSG than Real Madrid. The striker born in 1998 is concerned about having to compete for the main kick with Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale or Karim Benzema.
Last year, Mbappe was also shy when Benzema achieved impressive form in Real Madrid shirt. At that time, the 2018 World Cup champion was not really worried about the starting position at the Bernabeu. What he is looking for is the position of the number one star, the leader of the attack if he comes to Real Madrid. When Benzema or Ronaldo was still in Madrid, Mbappe could hardly occupy that position.
Now Benzema has gone to Saudi Arabia and President Florentino Perez needs a “blockbuster” contract to replace. Mbappe is the name Real Madrid needs right now. It should be remembered that just last week, businessman Perez made a rather suggestive statement about the possibility of Real Madrid recruiting Mbappe. When asked by a fan about the possibility of recruiting Mbappe, the head of “Los Blancos” immediately replied: “Yes, but not this year”.
That shows that the relationship between Real and Mbappe seems to be mending, after the incident last summer. In an interview when focusing with Spain, midfielder Nacho continued to respond to the Real president: “Harry Kane will be a good fit for Real this summer and Mbappe will come next summer”.
Not many players dare to speak publicly about transfer news like Nacho, which partly shows Real Madrid’s shopping picture this summer. Recruiting Mbappe in the summer of 2024 in a free form will be the best scenario, but if given the opportunity, the Bernabeu team will not refuse to welcome the French player this summer.
